L7 Advisory provides INPEX with strategic IT Planning

In 2000 INPEX discovered a significant gas and condensate structure in the Ichthys field situated within the Browse basin that lies off the North West coast of Australia.

Following this discovery, a total of 6 exploratory wells were drilled from 2000 to 2004 resulting in the discovery of exploitable commercial quantities. In August 2006 the Australian Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources granted INPEX Major Project Facilitation status for the Ichthys field.

INPEX will be the sole operator of the Ichthys LNG (Liquid Nitrogen Gas) field with plans to initially produce approximately 6 million tonnes of LNG per annum and 100,000 barrels of condensate and LPG per day. It is anticipated that the field will be operational for 30 to 40 years with potential future expansion to be determined based on market demand and reserves. An aggressive six year timetable has been drawn up to meet the first gas shipment planned for the end of 2012.

A vital component to the success of the Ichthys project is INPEX’s IS/IT environment which will be required to provide global communications and systems at the point of activity. INPEX’s operations and full time employees will significantly increase over the next 6 years both during the commercial development and operational phase of the Ichthys project.

To ensure that this critical component is both aligned with the Ichthys project and supporting INPEX’s global IT requirements, L7 Solutions has been engaged to facilitate a structured approach to review INPEX’s current IS/IT environment and the subsequent development of INPEX’s strategic 6 to 8 year IT/IS Plan.
